As regional chief executive for Scripps Health’s southern region, Tom Gammiere has oversight of two hospital campuses — Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista. His focus is on aligning the care and services provided by these hospitals to ensure high-quality, accessible health care and an exceptional health care experience for patients in South San Diego County.
Prior to this position, Gammiere served as chief executive of Scripps Mercy’s campuses since 2004. In this role, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 517-bed hospital campus in San Diego and the 183-bed hospital campus in Chula Vista. During his tenure, he led his teams through a limited expansion that included a new emergency room and trauma center and a new central energy plant at Scripps Mercy San Diego.
Gammiere began his career at Scripps in 1987. He served as the assistant administrator and then as the administrator at Scripps Memorial Hospital Chula Vista. When the hospital merged with Scripps Mercy in 2004, Gammiere was named chief executive for both campuses. His efforts at aligning services and care at both campuses helped provide greater access to care in this region.
Gammiere previously was assistant administrator, support services at St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marietta College in Ohio and his Master of Health Care Administration from the University of Iowa. Gammiere is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of the California Health Care Association. He also serves on the board of the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
