Tania Rivera, MD, is a rheumatologist who specializes in the treatment of connective tissue diseases such as, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, myositis, vasculitis and scleroderma. She has special interest in ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia.
Actively involved in clinical research, Dr. Rivera was trained at the New York University Medical School where she participated in research studies focusing on the treatment of lupus nephritis and lupus and pregnancy. Her current research focus includes rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr. Tania Rivera began practicing medicine in 2001. Dr. Rivera believes in integrative care, which is personalized based on each patient's needs. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, American College of Physicians and California Medical Association.
She volunteers at the UCSD student-run free clinic, which provides accessible, quality health care for the underserved in a respectful environment where students, health professionals and patients learn from one another. She also works as a per diem at a community clinic, Family Health Centers of San Diego, for the underserved population. Dr. Rivera participates in Project Access which helps uninsured patients get access to specialists.
When she is not at work, she is spending time outdoors with her husband and children.
