Keith Beiermeister, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon. His practice spans a wide range of colorectal disorders including cancer of the colon, rectum and anus, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s), diverticulitis, complex anal and rectal procedures (hemorrhoids, fissure and fistula), constipation and fecal incontinence. He also performs both screening and diagnostic colonoscopies.
He has been practicing medicine since 2012 and encourages his patients to be active participants in their care from the start. He considers his patients members of their care team.
Dr. Beiermeister has a particular interest in minimally invasive approaches to both benign and malignant diseases of the colon and rectum. Many of these procedures are now being performed robotically, and he serves as the general surgery representative of Scripps’ system-wide robotic surgery joint operating committee.
Dr. Beiermeister also serves as the Scripps medical director for the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Program and has collaborated with numerous surgeons on standardized protocols to reduce the stress of surgery on the body and support early return to function. In addition to overall improvement in patient satisfaction, the ERAS program at Scripps has led to shorter hospital stays after surgery, less need for opioid pain medications and fewer surgical infections.
Dr. Beiermeister is married to a native Californian; they are the proud parents of a beautiful little girl. In addition to family, his other interests include ice hockey (true to his Northeast roots), home improvement and golf.
