Biography
After joining Scripps as a cardiovascular disease fellow in 2008, Stephen Hu, MD, started his practice at Scripps in 2011. He specializes in treating patients with cardiovascular disease, with an emphasis on valvular heart disease. He is an expert in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, with a special interest in wireless health technologies. He is also experienced in the areas of geriatric medicine and internal medicine.
Dr. Hu has focused his research on the diagnosis of heart valve disease, cardiovascular imaging and three-dimensional echocardiography. He has also helped develop the utilization of cardiac computed tomography in transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures at Scripps Clinic. Dr. Hu is actively involved in the Scripps Clinic General Cardiology Fellowship as a teacher and mentor to fellowship trainees.
He is a member of multiple professional societies including the American College of Cardiology, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography.
He has also received multiple honors including intern of the year at Scripps Clinic and was named Dean’s Scholar and a University of Kansas Scholar. In addition, Dr. Hu served as chief cardiology fellow at Scripps Clinic. In 2012 Dr. Hu was honored with the Ruben F. Gittes, MD, Department of Medicine Chariman’s Award for Excellence in Research for his work on aortic valve morphology and has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Hu is also fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
