Dr. Jyoti Arya, plastic surgeon, specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast. Through such procedures as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction and breast reconstruction after mastectomy, she works with each individual patient to achieve optimal results. Her philosophy is that every patient has a different personal story, different interests, different beliefs—and therefore, requires a personalized plan of treatment.
As her practice at Scripps Clinic grows, Dr. Arya has special interest in Microvascular Breast Reconstruction, such as DIEP flap, which utilizes fatty tissue harvested from other areas of the body, as opposed to implants. Using tissue from the patient’s own body is the most natural way to reconstruct the breast and diminishes much of the secondary procedures associated with other methods.
A native San Diegan, Dr. Arya grew up in Del Mar, CA, and has always had a place in her heart for “America’s Finest City.” After completing her general surgical training, she was recruited to join the University of Colorado Department of Surgery in Denver, where her practice was predominantly general surgery with an interest in breast oncology.
As her practice in Colorado grew, Dr. Arya wanted to provide more reconstructive options for breast cancer patients, and so she opted to complete advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
In 2007, Dr. Arya’s devotion to proper treatment of breast cancer patients crossed family lines. When her mother was diagnosed with the disease, she was determined to see that she receive excellent care, and returned home to Del Mar. She was by her mother’s side as she made a full recovery.
Dr. Arya is an active participant in Scripps’ bi-weekly Breast Cancer Conference: a meeting of oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and radiologists to discuss specific patient cases and determine appropriate treatment plans for each patient.
In her free time, Dr. Arya loves to stay active, and enjoys gardening and cooking.
