Michael R. Smith, MD, practices general cardiology and welcomes patients with a wide variety of cardiac issues. He specializes in advanced echocardiographic imaging of the heart. His clinical focus is on the treatment of patients with valvular heart disease and other structural abnormalities of the heart. Dr. Smith is active in imaging guidance for the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of structural heart disease and atrial fibrillation.
Dr. Smith has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Tom and Neil Waltz Award for Leadership in Medicine, the Chairman’s Young Investigator Award for Research from the Thornburg Medical Foundation, and a Heart Failure Research Fellowship from the Heart Failure Society of America. He is a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, as well as the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Smith serves as the co-director of the echocardiography laboratory at Scripps Clinic. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, and adult comprehensive echocardiography.
