Dr. Kurtulus completed his training in medicine at the University Of Illinois School Of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. During his obstetrics and gynecology residency training at the Southern Illinois University Hospitals, he became interested in laparoscopic surgery and attended a training program in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery at the Advanced Laparoscopy Center, Stanford University.
Dr. Kurtulus also completed a training program in robotic surgery and has been providing his patients with this minimally invasive surgical option. Dr. Kurtulus is one of only 23 surgeons in the country, and the only surgeon in San Diego, chosen to be an epicenter surgeon, teaching other surgeons how to perform minimally invasive robotic surgery.
Dr. Kurtulus is the medical director of San Diego Women’s Health, which specializes in providing quality health care to women of all ages with general OB-GYN services, women’s wellness programs, urogynecology, infertility treatments and minimally invasive surgery options providing low-risk and fast recovery treatment options. In addition to his practice, for the past 10 years, he has served as a clinical faculty, teaching the medical students, residents and fellows at the University of California, San Diego.
He received multiple Resident Research Awards. He received the AAGL Achievement Award in Laparoscopy, an award granted by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, a professional organization dedicated to helping women with minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. He is also the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award.
His passion has led him to be involved in many research projects in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He also has been involved in the research and development of various surgical instruments to be used in minimally invasive procedures.
He is an active member of the American College of OB/GYN’s, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
