Sushrut Sujan Thiruvengadam, MD, is a gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist who specializes in the treatment of diseases of the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon) and associated organs, including the pancreas, bile duct, gallbladder and liver.
His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of pancreatic disease, biliary tract and gallbladder disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease and other gastrointestinal disorders. His procedural expertise includes endoscopic antireflux procedures, advanced endoscopic techniques to diagnose and treat pancreatobiliary disease and endoscopic removal of precancerous lesions throughout the digestive tract. One of Dr. Thiruvengadam’s passions has been to utilize endoscopic techniques to detect and potentially prevent cancer in the digestive tract. To this end, he has a particular interest in pancreas cancer screening among high-risk individuals, pancreatic cyst management, colon polyp resection and Barrett’s esophagus management.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Thiruvengadam has research interests in screening for pancreatic cancer among high-risk individuals, pancreatic cyst management and management of individuals with inherited polyposis syndromes. Dr. Thiruvengadam has been active in gastroenterology research and has published numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Thiruvengadam has also been active in the teaching and education of medicine and gastroenterology trainees. He believes that the key to a strong doctor-patient relationship is open and honest communication.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and exploring San Diego with family.
