Stephen Stephan, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained spine surgery specialist who provides care for conditions involving the neck and back. He treats spinal stenosis, disc herniations, spondylolisthesis, radiculopathy and spinal deformity. He specializes in artificial disc replacements, minimally invasive spinal procedures, revision procedures and complex spinal deformity.
Dr. Stephan’s research focuses on patient outcomes and creating better treatment methods. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications on spinal deformity, cervical and lumbar degenerative conditions, pediatric spine surgery, biomechanical studies, and has authored several book chapters. His research has won numerous regional and national awards and he has presented his work nationally and internationally. He was awarded the Scoliosis Research Society North American Resident Scholarship in 2020.
Dr. Stephan treats each patient as a whole person and brings all available information together to create a holistic method of treatment. He also strongly believes in the power of exercise, stretching, yoga and meditation to help people heal. He advocates a balanced and conservative approach to getting patients to where they want to be. When operative intervention is recommended, he is able to discuss and educate patients on what options are best.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Stephan enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. They enjoy taking their golden retriever to the beach and around town. He exercises often, including streaming workouts, yoga and paddleboarding.
