Kevin Tran, MD, is a fellowship-trained adult reconstructive orthopedic surgeon at Scripps Clinic who specializes in total joint replacements for arthritic conditions of the hips and knees. His practice encompasses the treatment of all forms of arthritis, continued pain following a joint replacement, developmental disorders of all ages that require joint replacement, fractures with or without the involvement of a joint replacement and the treatment of complex infections involving joint replacements.
His clinical focus is on muscle-sparing total hip replacements via a direct anterior approach, partial and total knee replacements, complex joint replacements, revision joint replacements and periprosthetic fracture fixation. He has extensive experience with surgical navigation and robotic-assisted total joint replacements. He also emphasizes multimodal pain control pathways, early mobilization and rapid recovery protocols to adopt a holistic approach to decrease hospital lengths of stay and to enhance postoperative recovery.
Dr. Tran is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) with multiple academic journal publications and presentations at national meetings.
Dr. Tran’s philosophy is to treat his patients as he would his own family and friends, from building strong doctor-patient relationships to making sure they understand and feel 100% comfortable with their diagnoses and treatment plans. His goal is always to develop a tailored treatment plan, whether surgical or non-surgical, to match each patient’s symptoms, their lifestyle, and most importantly, their activity goals and aspirations.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and exploring San Diego. His interests include college football, home improvement projects, swimming, scuba diving, traveling and cooking.
