Jasmine Lai, MD, is a maternal and fetal medicine specialist at Scripps Clinic. Dr. Lai manages a wide range of conditions that can affect both mother and baby during pregnancy, including gestational and pre-gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, maternal cardiac disease, maternal rheumatologic disease and fetal cardiac anomalies.
As an obstetrician and gynecologist specializing in maternal and fetal medicine, Dr. Lai has a clinical interest in procedures that include prenatal ultrasound, preconception counseling, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, as well genetic testing and non-invasive prenatal screening. She also provides treatment for multiple gestation pregnancies and pregnancies resulting from in vitro fertilization.
Dr. Lai feels that patient-centered care with open lines of communication between patients, families and a patient’s care team is the cornerstone of her practice. She has personal experience with a high-risk pregnancy and believes it is important to factor in her patients’ perspective at every encounter, whether during a fetal ultrasound or a complicated surgical delivery. She understands that many patients may not be well-versed in medical terminology and aims to discuss all aspects of a patient’s care in terms that they can easily understand and process.
Clinical research regarding quality improvement and patient safety within obstetrics is an area of interest for Dr. Lai, as well as health care disparities. Dr. Lai has authored manuscripts that were featured in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Lai is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and she is a member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Investigation, the American Medical Association and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Prior to becoming a mother, Dr. Lai enjoyed running, yoga, eating and traveling. Now she enjoys running after her child, doing yoga with her child and trying to get her child to eat.
