Break-ups, death of loved one, disasters can trigger symptoms

Scripps Clinic cardiologist Poulina Uddin, MD, recently discussed the signs and treatments of broken heart syndrome in an article about the often misunderstood medical condition published by U.S. News & World Report. 


Symptoms, which resemble a heart attack, can be triggered by a relationship break-up, the death of a loved one or suffering loss due to a natural disaster, such as a wildfire or flood, Dr. Uddin said. 


Diagnosing the condition is key to getting proper treatment, she said.
