Scripps Clinic endocrinologist Amy Chang, MD, was recently featured in a USA Today article exploring the symptoms and causes of hyperthyroidism, a condition that occurs when the body produces more thyroid hormone than normal.

The most common cause of hyperthyroidism is the autoimmune condition Graves’ disease, said Dr. Chang, who heads the Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Scripps Clinic. Other causes can include thyroid inflammation, thyroid nodules and consuming an excess amount of iodine.
