More physicians are embracing a new way of thinking about the relationship and interconnectivity of three common health conditions – cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and metabolic disease, including type 2 diabetes.
Scripps Clinic advanced heart failure specialist J. Thomas Heywood, MD, recently discussed the newly defined CKM syndrome during an interview with Ivanhoe Broadcast News.
Obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and renal problems all come together to make each worse, he explained, and these conditions should be treated as overlapping health issues.
