A January 2024 report from the American Cancer Society shows the overall risk of dying from cancer has decreased by 33% over the last 30 years, resulting in 4 million fewer deaths in the United States over that time.
Thomas Buchholz, MD, medical director of the Scripps cancer program, joined CBS 8 and Fox 5 TV news to explore what’s driving the positive trend. He also discussed another key finding from the report: a gradual increase in the overall number of new cancer cases, and what can be done to help turn the tide. Dr. Buchholz also is a Scripps Clinic physician.
