Ghazala Sharieff, MD, MBA, who is Scripps Health’s corporate senior vice president and chief medical and operations officer, acute care, has developed a handy mnemonic to help staff members focus on practices that increase operational excellence.
Her six Rs — retaining staff, reducing length of stay, reducing costs and increasing revenue, repatriation, raising money through philanthropy, and reassessing and reimaging — are designed to improve clinical care and enhance the health system’s operating margin.
Dr. Sharieff’s six Rs were recently featured in a HealthLeaders article highlighting the effort.
