Scripps Health's Eric Topol Recognized As Leader On the Web
The Daily Beast news site listed the cardiologist's Twitter feed among the best online destinations
Eric Topol, M.D., has been a fast-rising star on the Internet.
He has amassed nearly 24,000 followers on Twitter at @EricTopol, adding 6,500 new ones just in the past three months. His video interviews generate huge numbers of hits. And he scores a 68 on Klout, the analytics tool that ranks users according to their online social influence.
Now, the Scripps Health chief academic officer’s Twitter feed has been named one of the best destinations on the Web by the influential online news site The Daily Beast.
The outlet described its 82 Beast Best Awards winners as “a diverse and exciting roundup, including the best Tumblrs, the top-notch sports sites, the coolest parenting blogs, and the apps that will make your life better.”
Daily Beast editors had this to say about Dr. Topol: “This California cardiologist is an encyclopedia on the heart and other medical mysteries.”
They also quoted one of his recent Tweets: “Remember when banks didn’t have ATMs? Think ahead to the future of medicine.”
Others on the list included AOL founder Steve Case, Harvard Health, Sesame Street, Hillary Clinton and legendary professional basketball coach Phil Jackson.
Dr. Topol is a prolific tweeter who regularly posts comments about health care, cardiology, digital health technology and genetics.
