The Savvy Patient - Allergies Come in a Variety of Categories, Including Severe
In this week’s installment of The San Diego Union-Tribune’s “Savvy Patient” column, Scripps Health provides insight on allergies.
One in five Americans has at least one allergy, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. While most allergies result in only mild to moderate symptoms, they can have serious health consequences. Severe allergic reactions to food, prescription drugs, insect bites, latex and other triggers can result in death.
Proper diagnosis of an allergy and understanding of its risk factors allow for proper treatment and can significantly reduce future complications.
