This course will review the basics of how ventricular assist devices work, how to monitor patients, potential complications, and how to handle the equipment.

Course Overview

This course will review the basics of ventricular assist devices and how they function. This will include a review of how to monitor patients and assess for potential complications. As a virtual symposium there will be live and previously recorded demonstrations on Heartmate and HVAD equipment. There will be patient and caregiver discussions on living life with a VAD. This training is designed for those who assist with VAD patients in the community including ER, EMS, LTAC and SNF facilities, primary care, home health, hospice, and cardiac rehab center staff, and physical and occupational therapists.

Educational Objectives

After attending this live internet activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify components, function and theory of devices.
  • Demonstrate how to assess and monitor a VAD patient.
  • Describe emergency care for VAD patients.
  • Identify and manage potential complications associated with VADs.

All those involved in the planning and execution of this activity have been asked to identify and discuss issues relevant to the topics being covered. Attendee Cancellation, Substitution and Refund

The course tuition is refundable if your cancellation is received in writing no later than Friday, March 14, 2025. Attendee substitutions are allowed, but notification must be made in writing by Friday, March 14, 2025. After this date, under no circumstances will refunds, credits, or substitutions be granted. No refunds or credits will be given to “no shows.”
