CEO Blog: Safety Net Health Care Seems Lost in Current Debate
The Opinion Page editors at The San Diego Union-Tribune recently asked me to pen a commentary about whether health care is a right or a privilege.
As I thought about that question in the context of the latest debate over the future of the nation's health care system, one thing seemed clear: Ensuring the availability of safety-net services for the neediest patients doesn't seem to be a priority with lawmakers in Washington, D.C.
That's a mistake that can only be fixed with a bipartisan approach that seems impossible in the current political atmosphere.
