Comprehensive lab services

Scripps is here for you with comprehensive lab services that allow us to evaluate your health, detect issues early and monitor existing conditions using the latest standards and technology. Services include blood draws, sample collection and glucose tolerance testing. 


Your Scripps Clinic or Scripps Coastal Medical Center primary care provider or specialist will order your lab tests. They may be ordered for a wide variety of reasons, including routine check-ups or for diagnostic purposes.

Yes, your lab orders will be in your MyScripps patient portal. If you don’t have a MyScripps account, it’s easy to sign up.

No, you do not need to make an appointment. You may walk into any of our locations.We know your time is valuable. Let us know you are on your way and view wait times at nearby labs.


Then select the On My Way option or schedule an appointment. Using On My Way, you will complete some of the check-in process ahead of time.

Patient preparation instructions are usually in your After Visit Summary. Your After Visit Summary is printed and typically given to you at the end of your office visit. You can also find a digital copy by logging into your MyScripps account after your visit. Review this for additional guidance prior to your lab visit. 

Fasting is often required before testing. Fasting means nothing to eat or drink, except water, for 10 to 12 hours before testing.


Check with your health care provider to determine if you should continue to take your medications. Some common fasting tests include fasting glucose, fasting lipid panel, fasting metabolic panel, fasting cholesterol, HDL or triglyceride.


If you are uncertain about whether you should fast, please contact your health care provider.

Every test has a specific turn-around time. The lab results will be posted to MyScripps when they are complete. If you have questions about a specific result, reach out to the ordering physician with any questions. It is always recommended that you speak with your health care provider regarding your tests results. 

Please be sure to have your completed physician orders, photo ID and your insurance card with you when you come in for testing.
