Andrew King, MD, is a nephrologist who specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic kidney disease and hypertension. His practice includes care for a wide range of kidney disease — from mild to advanced. He currently serves as the head of the division of nephrology at Scripps Clinic and the chair of the chronic kidney disease council for Scripps Health. Dr. King is nationally recognized for innovation in home dialysis.
Dr. King’s primary goal is to slow the progression of kidney disease and prevent the need for dialysis. If kidney replacement is needed, Dr. King believes strongly in pre-emptive transplant and home dialysis. Dr. King has also championed the development of specialized services in the division of nephrology related to glomerular disease and hypertension.
With an emphasis on patient education and individualized care, Dr. King prescribes treatments that are in the best interest of the patient’s health and quality of life. As part of a large, multidisciplinary team, he is able to collaborate with physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians and transplant specialists to ensure that all treatment options are considered and that the patient is at the center of all decisions.
